RugbyX is the new, World Rugby approved 5v5 format of rugby which launched in October 2019. Two years after initial conception, ten leading international men’s and women’s sevens teams competed in the inaugural event at London’s O2 arena. Groundbreaking technology led to the creation of a temporary 4G pitch which could be installed into The O2 in under 6 hours - opening up indoor arenas as new venues for rugby. Whilst law variations in RugbyX such as quick throws replacing line-outs have led to fast, simple gameplay, attracting new, younger audiences and participants to the sport.
